Joseph R. Gluse, AIA Architect

Joseph R. Gluse is a Connecticut native and has a strong appreciation for the New England style of architecture. He began working in the field of engineering, but always had a special interest in architecture and working with wood that was fostered by his father and uncle, who were carpenters. This interest became stronger and finally inspired him make a change in careers. In 1974, after attending courses in architecture, he began as an apprentice, working for various area architects. His enthusiasm for the field of architecture continually grew and after gaining the required hands on experience, qualified and passed the nationally recognized architectural examination. In 1992, with his experience in architectural design and construction technology he opened his own practice. He is a licensed architect registered in the states of Connecticut and New York. He is a member of The American Institute of Architects, AIA Connecticut, CORArchitecture- The Congress of Residential Architecture and International Code Counsel. Among his other interests he enjoys painting in watercolor, the outdoors and is an avid fly-fisherman and member of Trout Unlimited.

He has been a member of a Planning and Zoning Commission and appreciates the proper use of land. New England has some of the most challenging topography and he welcomes the opportunity to provide designs that incorporate the buildings he designs and land they are on to their highest and best use. He knows the importance of utilizing the land to its utmost potential while minimizing the environmental impact and strives to bring his experience and knowledge to all of his clients. Because our environment is important, he also strives to utilize products and materials that conserve energy, are user friendly, and provide “green” design.

Building materials and technology are constantly evolving. To stay abreast of this evolution, he maintains an ongoing continuing education schedule. Attending seminars on new building codes, materials and technology allows him to offer his clients the latest developments in the construction industry. He has also attended Executive Education Programs at Harvard University Graduate School of Design and Yale University. Providing architectural services to the residential client has always been the largest part of his practice. Whether the project is a complete new home design, vacation home, or an addition and renovation, all are met with a fresh perspectiveand intensity, providing the client a finished project that serves their particular needs, desires and lifestyle.
